A double handball, a penalty miss and a red card, it’s easy to work out the team involved in this game.
This is Leeds United, this is what we do.
Although this isn’t the Leeds United which has presented itself for the majority of this season or who outclassed Arsenal a few weeks ago.
Yesterday was disappointing on all levels.
QPR should have had their goal ruled out, where is VAR when you need it?
However we had chances to draw level and even win the game, Patrick Bamford failed to convert a crucial penalty and the players just couldn’t convert the 17 shots they had into any significance.
We waved goodbye to our advantageous lead over 3rd place, just 4 points now separate us from Fulham.
Kalvin Philips saw red for a poor challenge on Geoff Cameron, he will now miss our next 3 games, not ideal given the limited options we already have.
When we needed to mix things up, we could only offer Jordan Stevens. Stevens is a promising prospect but as a team chasing promotion we should have access to a more experience bench. Hopefully the board will be busy this week, and send a statement of intent to all concerned with Leeds that promotion is the aim and we will not settle for anything less.
With 18 games to go this is not the end of our promotion quest, no season ends in January but it’s just another stark warning that if we allow this to continue, we won’t go up. Sticking to the same game plan when it’s not working is not the makings of a side chasing promotion.
Bielsa and his boys have work to do.
