Burnley v Leeds United – Preview
Leeds United travel to Turf Moor this afternoon to take on Burnley looking to secure our first victory of the new Premier League season. A win would be a great boost going into next week’s international break.
I always struggle with the timing of this first international break, it seems like we just get back and then there is a weekend without club football again. However, we now have two England calls ups with Patrick Bamford joining Kalvin Phillips in the 25 man squad and he will be hoping to go into the camp following a goalscoring performance today.
We beat Burnley twice last season and were 4-0 winners last time out at Turf Moor and defeat today for Sean Dyche’s team would see them having lost their last 6 consecutive games at home.
In terms of team news, Diego Llorente looks set to start for the first time this season after 45 minutes in the Carabao Cup in midweek and will likely partner Pascal Struijk in the centre of defence with Liam Cooper on the bench. Raphinha and Stuart Dallas are expected to come back into the team with Adam Forshaw returning to the bench.
It was fantastic to see Adam Forshaw start the game on Tuesday and a testament to both the medical team and Forshaw himself. He is clearly a player Marcelo Bielsa rates highly and his attitude throughout his injury nightmare has been inspirational. I really hope he can push on now and make an impact on this team.
Burnley have doubts over Ashley Westwood and Matej Vydra but Aaron Lennon, who rejoined the club this week is available to face his former side.
A repeat of last year? Yes please!
