I never thought I would be writing a preview for a Leeds United league game in midsummer, but 2020 has other ideas.
Whilst so much has happened in the world in the last 3 months, the football world has been on pause but tomorrow we go again, 9 games to go and one promotion to win.
It is almost as if Luke Ayling’s goal against Huddersfield was destined to be memorable, for it is the one we have hung onto for the last 106 days. There was a time when it looked like that game might have been the last we saw of our team this season, but thankfully the situation has dramatically improved and we can enjoy football again.
There is no doubt it will feel strange without fans, but having watched a few games already, the crowd noise seems to work well so far. Although I hope the audio teams have the Leeds crowd noise ready for tomorrow as it won’t be very realistic to just hear the Cardiff fans!
In terms of the actual football, we pick up where we left off. We go into the game tomorrow on the back of five straight wins, a run which has seen Leeds score 9 goals without conceding any in return.
We know that Pablo Hernandez is not fit for tomorrow’s game, meaning we are likely to see a start for either Tyler Roberts or Gjanni Alioski.
In midfield, Mateusz Klich looks set to start his 86th Championship game in a row. The break in the season will have no doubt given him time to recharge for the final 9 game run in.
Cardiff go into the game aiming to force their way into the top 6 and are three points behind Preston at the time of writing.
Neil Harris was keeping injury information to himself in the pre-match press conference earlier in the week so we will have to wait until tomorrow to see their line-up.
Our promotion story was never going to be straightforward, but we start again tomorrow and I have no doubts that we will pick up where we left off with a comfortable win.
One more sleep.
