Leeds United 1-0 Reading

One step closer.

Yesterday wasn’t our finest performance and it wasn’t the easiest of games to watch, but we did what we had to do.

With 66% possession, we dominated the game and as usual had the majority of the chances, 18 shots to be exact.

We didn’t have it all our own way, particularly in the first half as Reading stood strong and we couldn’t find a way past them. We had a few chances, but shots from Patrick Bamford and Helder Costa failed to find the target.

Our formation and game plan was forced to change early on when Kalvin Philips left the field with a leg injury. The crowd held its collective breath as the medical team went to his aid. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and he will be fit for Wednesday, the signs were positive as he was still able to celebrate with the fans after the game.

We stepped up a gear in the second half and took the lead through a Pablo Hernandez goal. Helder Costa back-heeled the ball into his path and after his initial shot was blocked he weaved through the Reading defence and fired the ball into the top corner.

As always Leeds like to give us a scare in the dying moments, Liam Moore finding space in the Leeds penalty area and it took a crucial save by Kiko Casilla to ensure we secured all 3 points.

12 games to go, 5 points clear of third.

Maybe just maybe the stars are aligning for our return to the Premier League.
