Leeds United

Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

1-0 is becoming familiar.

It’s a scoreline that very much reflects Bielsa’s philosophy. It wasn’t fancy but we worked hard and did what we needed to.

It was a win that sees us only 4 points behind West Brom but crucially still 5 points ahead of Fulham in third place. The gap between the chasing pack is the important one. I think most fans accept that West Brom are going up and we just want to make sure we get one of the automatic spots too.

Gaetano Berardi returned to the starting line up last night, for the first time since the 3-3 draw with Cardiff. Playing in defence, he was outstanding last night and provided a timely reminder of his capabilities given that he has not yet been offered a contract renewal.

There were times in the game that Middlesbrough looked anything but a team in a relegation fight and the possession stats are more even than we have seen for the majority of games this season. (57% Leeds, 43% Middlesbrough).

Mateusz Klich made it 3 goals in two games against Boro this season with a strike just before half time, responding first to the rebound from a Pablo Hernandez shot.

We had chances and had a penalty shout turned away when Jack Harrison was brought down in the area, replays suggesting that we were once again unlucky with the decision.

However, one goal is all it takes sometimes.

11 games to go.
