This evening sees Leeds United take on Manchester City at Elland Road in the Premier League.
When the fixtures came out many would have expected City to be clear favourites but given the start we have enjoyed, the result is no longer a foregone conclusion.
We have taken on the tag of Premier League entertainers and this game is another one where we should be allowed time to play our style of football.
For Pep Guardiola, this is a chance to pit his wits against the man who he calls his inspiration. Hopefully he will be further inspired by Marcelo Bielsa today following a Leeds victory!
Jack Harrison is not available for Leeds as his loan agreement stipulates that he cannot play against his parent club. This is despite the fact that Harrison has never actually made an appearance for Manchester City.
I never really understand this rule anyway, the parent club clearly think their squad is better than the players they loan out, or they wouldn’t let them go. This is Harrison’s third season with Leeds yet this reminds us that he is not actually our player. Despite all the signings so far, I would have liked to see us tie him down to a deal at Elland Road.
Gjanni Alioski is likely to get his first Premier League start and has been encouraged by Marcelo Bielsa to take his chance and show his credentials. Alioski is one of my favourites, his crazy antics can sometimes overshadow the fact that he is a very talented footballer and his work rate is one of the most impressive in the team.
City are likely to give a debut to new record signing Ruban Dias as they continue to suffer with injuries but Ilkay Gundogan could return after completing his quarantine period following a positive Covid 19 test.
This fixture will always be one of my favourites because it was the first Leeds United match I ever saw back in August 2002. Leeds won 3-0 that day and how we would love to see a repeat of that score line later this evening.
