Elland Road Stadium

Preview: Leeds United v Barnsley

Much of the talk this week has centred on when we can go up and involved lots of calculations with the table, however we just need to focus on winning our own games.

Promotion remains, as it has done for much of the season, in our own hands. A win tonight and at least a point on Sunday and we are up regardless of what West Brom, Brentford or any other team in the league do.

Barnsley are the visitors to Elland Road this evening and whilst we are bidding farewell to the Championship, they are desperately trying to stay in it. Currently bottom of the league, they are four points from safety and Gerhard Struber’s side are running out of time to save their season.

Their own match preview makes interesting reading, particular the reference to us being “champions in waiting”. It certainly seems that they do not hold any hopes for tonight and I sincerely hope they are right.

Leeds will be without Kalvin Phillips for tonight’s game, after he suffered a knee injury in the win at Swansea last Sunday.

This is likely to see Ben White move into midfield with a start for Gaetano Berardi alongside Liam Cooper at the back. Personally, I would like to see a start for Jamie Shackleton tonight and keep White in defence, but thankfully those decisions are not for me to make!

Barnsley will be without Elliot Simoes and Romal Palmer this evening with ankle and knee injuries respectively.

The Championship rollercoaster is nearly over, three points tonight and we are all but there.
