Preview – Leeds United v Stoke City
There are five games left of this season and potentially just two weeks left before our 16 year exile from the Premier League is over.
So why do we all feel so nervous?
We are all looking at the results from Brentford and West Brom, calculating the points, considering all possible eventualities and it’s making us all feel quite unwell!
We are the best team in the league and in normal circumstances, the pressure would be on the chasing pack. However, this is Leeds United and we are so used to disappointment that it’s almost self-preservation to expect the worst.
However, I think this team can let us dare to dream and try to enjoy the last 5 games. This team who have played some of the best football seen in the Championship and who have made us believe again.
Marcelo Bielsa hinted that Stuart Dallas and Helder Costa are both likely to return to the starting line-up after recovering from their respective injuries, meaning a return to the bench for Barry Douglas and Gjanni Alioski.
That we have such a strength in depth with a small squad shows how far this club has come in the past two years and we can take a further step tonight against Stoke.
The Potters are languishing in 20th position, just one point above the drop zone with only five games remaining.
They have injury concerns with Joe Allan, Tom Edwards and Thibaud Verlinden all set to miss out for Michael O’Neill’s side.
A win at Elland Road tonight and we stay 6 points clear of third with just four games to go.
It’s nervy now but it will be worth it.
