Elland Road Stadium

We’re going to stay with you forever..

I think the defeat on Saturday showed that our current situation isn’t a footballing problem, it’s a mental issue.

We had 70% possession as the away team but couldn’t convert that into goals and whilst we had chances, we lacked that creative spark.

Forest didn’t play the kind of football that would normally beat us but goals from Ameobi and Lolley saw them go home with all three points.

This was not the team we saw pre-Christmas, this is the effect of pressure.

The Championship is one of the toughest leagues in football, the Tuesday night trips across the country and the back to back games. Even the international break doesn’t provide any relief because we have players representing their countries.

We are never allowed to just quietly get on with it, because we are such a big club. The majority of our games are chosen for TV and there is always so much media interest. As I write this, TalkSport are already talking about our demise.

Yes, people are entitled to their opinion, but negativity breeds negativity and we don’t need any more of that.

Some of the football we played at the start of the season was unbelievable, and that ability hasn’t gone, it’s just got a bit lost under the pressure.

I think changes need to be made in the team, some of the players are clearly struggling and whilst the starting XI might be the best on paper, that’s only when they are fully fit, both physically and mentally.

It will allow fringe players their chance and prove that they deserve to be involved, but it will also give the others a break. So often we see the same starting side and the same subs coming on but it’s unfair to ask 14 or so players to carry this entire club to the Premier League.

It’s not easy following this team, it’s particularly tough at the minute watching our season start to unravel. However, as we mentioned in our post last week, we need to support each other through the ups and the downs, and that includes the players.

We will regroup and we will be back.
