Today is World Mental Health Day.
That we still have an awareness day for mental health suggests that it is still not spoken about enough and that needs to change.
Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it seems much easier for people to say they have hurt their back than it does for them to say they are feeling anxious and they don’t know why.
Mental health affects every single person, it has no regard for how old you are, your gender, which team you support or what job you have. Therefore, we need to all support each other to recognise this and improve our mental wellbeing.
If you need additional help, please make sure you get it. There are so many support options available and they are listed at the bottom of this page. There is no need to suffer with poor mental health.
The key is to take it step by step, don’t pressure yourself into thinking you need to feel okay by a certain time or you need to try every suggested tip to improve your mental health.
It might be that you add in some extra exercise at home if you don’t feel like going out, it’s still exercise and for that day it might be the best thing for you. It might be that singing is your thing and a rendition of Marching on Together whilst making your lunch makes you feel better. Just find what small steps you can add in to your day that make you feel better.
One thing we can all do is to stay connected, whether that’s in person, on the phone or via social media. The great thing about supporting Leeds United is there is always something to talk about and always somebody who wants to talk.
